(AP) ? Mitt Romney's campaign is pushing back against Obama campaign commercials depicting him as having shipped jobs overseas while a private venture capitalist.

Romney campaign adviser Ed Gillespie says the charge is, in his words, "a lie."

Appearing Thursday on NBC's "Today" show, Gillespie said there isn't any evidence Romney outsourced jobs as head of Bain Capital.

Gillespie says that job outsourcing wasn't the policy at Bain Capital when Romney was in charge.

Romney's push-back against President Barack Obama on the issue of outsourcing jobs is the basis of a new Romney campaign ad.

In the ad, the Romney campaign assails Obama for the outsourcing assertion and says, quote, "When a president doesn't tell the truth, how can we trust him to lead."
