Help! Minecraft Is Taking Over My House, But In A Good Way ...

A major crisis in our house last night: my sons' Minecraft server got griefed.

If you know what I'm talking about, then welcome to the club of parents of miners. If you don't, you soon will. Minecraft is a an open-ended video game that appeals to kids ages 5-105. It may be the first online game that teachers, parents and kids like with equal abandon. There are over 36 million registered users worldwide. It may be the hottest thing to hit home computers, well, since the Internet.?

Until the addiction sets in, that is.?

Minecraft is an open-ended game where players create communities with simple commands. The graphics are not very good, there is no tracking points or winning or losing. Everything is square. If you want your buildings to have windows you have to melt sand. But the opportunities are infinite -- my kids' world has roller coasters and castles and a courthouse.?

Teachers are using it in their classrooms and new mods are being developed for educational purposes.

It was my son's Grade Three teacher that started us off last year. Soon my nine year old was talking about building and asking questions about the colours of gems. His 12-year old brother scoffed but eventually got sucked in. They created their own Minecraft server, which then sucked in my husband.

The best part is that my daughter soon joined in and now she is also building and learning about programming. This makes me particularly happy because girls need to play video games so they can compete in the new economy. (No, I'm not kidding.)

So I love Minecraft. I love how the kids plan ahead, they problem solve, they actually work together and they create a world based on their imagination.

But you know what I hate? Myself yelling: Get off the computer, go outside, enjoy the sunshine. You eyes are turning square! I'm going to ban all screentime!!" And variations on the above.?

So as much as I love what goes on with Minecraft, I would love to see a little less of it. Thank goodness school is starting soon.?

Are your kids into Minecraft?

Want more chaos? Last year, I asked if our playgrounds were making kids fat.

Peter Emerick: "Rajon Rondo recently said that he's the NBA's top point guard. What are your thoughts on that, and where do you think you rank among all the point guards in the NBA?"

Mario Chalmers: "He's not the best, but he's in the top five. There are a lot of great point guards in the league, Deron Williams, Chris Paul and Steve Nash. There are a lot of great guards in the NBA so for him to say he's the best is a pretty bold statement. I'd say that I [Mario Chalmers] am in the front end of the top 10."

Not Warriors related, but Mario Chalmers is nowhere near those other players he listed. He's only recognized bc he plays with LeBron and Wade.

Frugal Family Tree: Books! We Love Them

I live in a family that treasure books. I love it. As a kid when we moved books were packed and carried with the care of fine china. I grew up knowing the value if a good book and to pass the admiration of books on to my own kids. My son is a book lover too, I smile proudly about that. He loves to curl up on my lap like a cat and listen to me read, then "read" it back to me when he declared its his turn. The first "grown up" book I read as a teenager was The Horse Whisper, I still love that book to this day. I love Martha Stewart from reading her books from my Moms book shelves as far back as I can even have memories. The books my Mom put in our home I think helped shape my personality. I have books that are expensive and ones I have bought for $0.25 at a yard sale and I treasure them all the same. As a busy Mom it seems I do not read chapter books as much as I would like to but I do love the kids books I get to read with my son.

I like the The Catalog and The Mountains Crack Up by Jasper Tomkins, not just for the story but the memories of reading it with my family as a kid. There is a value you dont see until you have your own kids how much your parents influence your like or dislike for books. I encourage you to grab a book, sit with your kids and get lost in the story, even if its one you have read hundreds of times lol.

What books are you reading? What books are your kids loving right now?

Police: 100-year-old driver hits 11 near LA school

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? A 100-year-old man backed his car on to a sidewalk and hit 11 people, including nine children, across from an elementary school in South Los Angeles just after classes had ended Wednesday, authorities said.

Four of the children were in critical condition when firefighters arrived but they were stabilized and were in serious condition at a hospital, city fire Capt. Jaime Moore said. Everyone was expected to survive, he said.

The powder blue Cadillac backed slowly into the group of parents and children buying snacks from a sidewalk vendor, and the crowd banged on his windows and screamed for him to stop, but not before some of the children were trapped under the car, witnesses said.

LA County-USC hospital spokeswoman Rose Saca said one child remained in critical but stable condition, another would remain for observation overnight and another would likely go home later in the day. Others were treated and released.

Children's backpacks, shoes, candy and loose change were strewn about the scene behind a discount grocery store across from Main Street Elementary.

Police identified the driver as Preston Carter and said he was being very cooperative.

Carter talked to television reporters after the crash some five miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles. He said he has a driver's license and will be 101 years old Sept. 5.

"My brakes failed. It was out of control," Carter told KCAL-TV.

Asked about hitting the children, Carter said: "You know I'm sorry about that. I wouldn't do that for nothing on earth. My sympathies for them."

Carter was pulling out of the grocery store parking lot, but instead of backing into the street, he backed onto the sidewalk, police Capt. George Rodriguez said.

"I think it was a miscalculation on his part. The gentleman is elderly," Rodriguez said. "Obviously he is going to have some impairment on his decision making."

Older drivers have been involved in other tragedies. In 2003, an 86-year-old man mistakenly stepped on the gas pedal of his car instead of the brake and then panicked, plowing into an open-air market in Santa Monica. Ten people were killed and 63 injured.

According to California's Department of Motor Vehicles, people over age 70 must renew their driver's license in person, rather than via the Internet or by mail. Older drivers can also be required to take a supplemental driving test if they fail a vision exam, or if a police officer, a physician, or a family member raises questions about their ability to drive.

Rodriguez said the collision was being investigated as an accident, and Carter was not under arrest. He has a valid driver's license, Rodriguez said.

Thousands rally for Dos Santos in campaign carnival

With President Jose Eduardo dos Santos's face plastered on jumbo screens, T-shirts and helium blimps, thousands of Angolans rallied Wednesday in the final campaign show of one of Africa's most powerful rulers.

Supporters came in buses, mini-vans and a fleet of luxury SUVs to Angola's biggest stadium, on the outskirts of Luanda, an area being transformed into a "new city" by a staggering landscape of mainly Chinese construction projects.

With speakers blaring jingles in support of the ruling MPLA, the crowd danced to lyrics like "The MPLA is our party" and "It's for all Angolans, the MPLA."

The People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) has dominated politics in the country since independence from Portugal in 1975. Its leader, Dos Santos has had a grip on power in the oil rich nation for 33 years.

At the rally, a stage festooned with balloons in the party colours of red, yellow and black rose outside the stadium, flanked by jumbo screens showing Dos Santos's face alongside a party flag. In the rear of the crowd, his face beamed from a two-storey banner.

And in the crowd, the party wasted no opportunity to brand itself and the president's portrait on headscarves, baseball caps, T-shirts, cowboy hats, umbrellas and skirts.

"We want Jose Eduardo dos Santos to win," said Fernando Bumba. The 49-year-old said he had voted for the MPLA in the 2008 elections, when the party took more than 80 percent of the vote in the country's first peacetime polls.

"The MPLA has built stadiums, schools and clinics. This party can help the poor," he said.

The rally was designed like a well-organised street fair. The Organisation of Angolan Women was given prime spots in front of the stage, cheering "Viva!" and dancing to party songs.

Men and young boys were grouped by regions in the rear, separated by ropes with sections clearly labeled. Along the edges rose a thriving market of barbecues and fresh fruits.

Through the crowd volunteers passed out water and juice, and of course large photographs of Dos Santos.

"This party cares about the future of young people," said 19-year-old Silvio Cuanzanga Zua, a computer science student wearing a Dos Santos T-shirt and cap.

He praised Dos Santos for improvements to his family's neighbourhood.

"Now we have water at my house," he said.

Not that life is easy. He lives with his parents and six siblings in a three-bedroom home. Some of his brothers work as taxi drivers, but he believes he'll be able to find a better job.

The lavishly orchestrated rally took place within sight of the "new city" of Kilamba Kaixi, a sprawling Chinese-built complex developed to house tens of thousands of families in one of the government's showcase projects to ease Luanda's crushing housing shortage.

But one year after the first phase was completed, the city remains largely empty -- a sign of both Angola's heady ambitions and its difficulty in following through on its projects.

At the rally, few cared about the government's shortfalls.

In power since 1979, Dos Santos claims credit for ending the country's 27-year civil war and for the economic boom of the last decade, when Angola, Africa's second-largest oil producer, emerged as one of the world's fastest-growing economies.

The opposition in Angola is generally fragmented while civil society is weak, enabling the MPLA to keep a tight hold on power.

One 57-year-old retired teacher, who declined to be named, said she'd supported the MPLA all her life, because it's "the party of peace".

She blamed Unita, the former rebel group that is now the main opposition, for dragging out the war.

"During the war, we couldn't do anything. Now we can do whatever we want," she said. "The most important thing is peace."

Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE (Sprint)

It's been a long time since Sprint's had a great keyboarded smartphone. The Motorola Admiral??was pretty good, but the BlackBerry-style keyboard and push-to-talk capabilities weren't for everyone. And the Samsung Epic 4G?paired a top-notch smartphone with a big, comfortable keyboard, but that was more than two years ago. Enter the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE. It's got a killer keyboard, a fast dual-core processor, and support for Sprint's brand new 4G LTE network. It's kind of huge, but it's the best keyboarded smartphone on Sprint, and well worthy of our Editors' Choice award.

Design, Call Quality, and Network
The Photon Q looks like a cross between the original Motorola Photon 4G, and the Motorola Droid 4??over on Verizon Wireless. It measures 5 by 2.6 by 0.5 inches (HWD) and weighs a hefty six ounces. Most good keyboarded phones are packing some extra bulk, but it's something to consider when making your decision. Luckily, a lot of that extra weight is put to good use in the Photon Q's absolutely fabulous slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Essentially the same as the one you'll find on the Verizon Droid 4, the five-row keyboard on the Photon Q is going to make many typists very happy. The rubbery, laser-cut keys are well-separated, ultra-tactile, and brightly backlit. I love the row of number keys up at the top, as well as the directional pad and the Caps Lock key. Simply put, this is the phone to get if you like to message more than talk. And that's a good thing, since the Photon Q doesn't boast the best call quality?more on that in a minute.

Sprint isn't making too much fuss over it, but the Photon Q is ULE Platinum Certification, which is the highest level of environmental performance recognized by sustainable requirements established by UL Environment and Sprint. So it's also a good choice if you're looking to make an environmentally conscious decision. It's also splash proof, though you shouldn't go taking it in the shower.

The display is an increasingly standard (for Motorola, anyway) 4.3-inch, 960-by-540 LCD panel. It's not nearly as impressive as the 4.8-inch high-res behemoth of a screen on the Samsung Galaxy S III, but it looks bright and sharp enough to satisfy most users.

The Photon Q is a world phone that supports Sprint's brand new 4G LTE network as well as its much slower 3G network. It also supports tri-band (850/1900/2100 MHz) HSPA+21 and quad-band (850/900/1800/1900) EDGE for international calling. Unfortunately, you can't swap out the built-in SIM card while travelling, so you'll be stuck paying some pretty pricey rates while abroad.

In this year's?Fastest Mobile Networks?tests we found Sprint's 3G network to be the slowest of the nationwide networks. We also got a chance to test Sprint's 4G LTE network and found it to be a vast improvement. Unfortunately, it's only available in a limited number of cities right now, so chances are you'll be stuck with significantly slower speeds until it comes to your town.

Sprint LTE is not yet available in New York City, where we tested the Photon Q, so all of our tests were conducted over 3G. Reception was fine, though call quality just mediocre. Voices sound fuzzy in the phone's earpiece and a little harsh, especially at louder volumes. Transmissions through the mic let through some background noise, and voices tend to crackle. The phone paired easily with my?Jawbone Era?Bluetooth headset?and the Motorola voice command system worked fine. The Photon Q uses Bluetooth 4.0, which allows various smart watches and fitness devices to communicate with the phone. The speakerphone sounds fine, but isn't loud enough to use outdoors. And despite the large 1785mAh battery, talk time was just average at 6 hours and 59 minutes.

Processor and Apps
The Photon Q is powered by the same 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor as the Galaxy S III. That means it's packing plenty of power for absolutely anything, from casual social networking to super high-end gaming. It shouldn't have trouble running any of the 500,000+ apps in the Google Play store.

On a quiet day, Apple rules the stock market

NEW YORK (AP) ? The biggest story in the stock market Monday was Apple, but that wasn't saying much.

Stocks barely moved. Trading was light, even by the slumberous standards of August. Investors ? those who weren't on vacation ? killed time waiting for a speech by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke later this week.

In the meantime, there wasn't much else to guide them. Apple was one of the only shreds of action in an otherwise dull market.

The stock shot to an all-time high of $680.87 and finished at $675.68, up $12.46, or 1.9 percent. Late Friday, a jury found that Samsung copied some of the features of the iPhone and iPad, and Samsung could be forced to take products off the shelves.

Apple's move wasn't the biggest on the stock market Monday. Best Buy, Hertz, Dollar Thrifty and other companies all moved by bigger percentages.

But the Nasdaq composite index and Standard & Poor's 500 index are weighted by stock market value, so the biggest companies are the most important. A small change in Apple can influence the market more than big swings by smaller companies.

Apple makes up more than 13 percent of the Nasdaq composite, and helped the index grasp a slight gain, rising 3.4 points to 3,073.19. It makes up 5 percent of the Standard & Poor's 500 index, which finished down 0.69 point to 1,410.44.

The Dow Jones industrial average, which does not include Apple, fell 33.30 points to 13,124.67.

Apple is the biggest company by stock market value in American history, worth $633 billion as of Monday. That's more than 100 times the value of Best Buy or Hertz, and about 260 times as much as Dollar Thrifty.

Overall trading was subdued ? just 2.4 billion shares. The only quieter day this year was July 3, a Tuesday that fell before a midweek Fourth of July.

"The market is kind of on hold until Jackson Hole," said Randall Warren, chief investment officer of Warren Financial Service in Exton, Pa., referring to the Wyoming resort town where Bernanke will speak. "Probably Apple is the only thing that's moving the market today. It's stunning how big they are."

Investors will scour Bernanke's remarks for clues about whether the Federal Reserve will buy more government bonds or take other action to try to speed up the economic recovery.

But some investors doubt there's much the Fed can do. The Fed's two previous rounds of bond-buying, launched in March 2009 and November 2010, were designed to lower interest rates, but short-term rates are already near zero.

"Who cares what the Fed's going to do?" said Steve Quirk, senior vice president of the trader group at TD Ameritrade in Chicago. "It's not effective anymore anyway."

Shares of Hertz and Dollar Thrifty jumped because Hertz announced it would buy its rival. Hertz shares rose 8.1 percent, or $1.06, to $14.21. Dollar Thrifty rose 7.5 percent, or $6.08, to $87.08.

Best Buy climbed 56 cents, or 3.2 percent, to $17.87 after announcing that its founder would be able to pursue his plans to buy the company and take it off the public stock market.

But mostly, trading was quiet. Out of 19 trading days this month, the Dow has moved more than 1 percent only once. On five days it has been virtually flat, moving less than one-tenth of a percentage point.

In Europe, the debt crisis trudged along, but with no real steps forward or back.

The head of Germany's central bank repeated his opposition to a bond-buying plan that could lower borrowing costs for countries like Spain and Italy but that would require Germany to foot most of the bill.

Germany's finance minister and economy minister weighed in over the weekend, saying they wouldn't give Greece more time to make the spending cuts that Germany has demanded.

But none of the comments came as a surprise, and bigger events lie ahead. German courts will decide next month whether Germany is constitutionally allowed to keep participating in bailouts.

In such cases, IFC usually helps the completion of feasibility studies and helps in setting-up neighborhood development programs that help to secure a ?social license to operate? among local people. As an exemplory case of the IFC?s concentrate on sustainable mining through early equity assets, Karsten Fuelster says: ?We have lately invested in Asia Energy Corporation, a coal bed methane exploration venture in China, marketing cleaner energy technology in a country that seeks to generate energy in ever cleaner ways.?A sustainable approach to mining is no longer an altruistic practice ? it?s a small business imperative. IFC highlights that mining organizations are visitors in distant impoverished regions, often for 20-40 years. To make sure long-term achievement, mining operations should be ideal, translucent and built with qualified recruiting to address the challenge of earning mining lasting in performance standards have been developed by the long-term.IFC for corporations covering cultural and environment analysis and management methods. Effective local stakeholder management happens by design and several problems are avoidable with good planning, starting as early as throughout the research period. Karsten Fuelster explains: ?The early in the day we engage with organizations the more we can support their project development and help in addressing environmental and social issues.?As of June 2006, IFC?s investment portfolio in every market groups in East Asia and the Pacific stood at US$3253 million, with almost US$1500 million in China, US$606 million in Indonesia, US$407 million in the Philippines, US$20 in Thailand, and US$104 million in Vietnam.?We are seeking precisely at investment opportunities through the duration of Asia and are presently speaking to a number of potential customers. With IFC?s financial, technological, environmental and cultural in-house knowledge, we provide an attractive price proposition to clients,? Karsten Fuelster says.

Health = Where you are at. ? Tsawwassen Wellness Centre

NOTE FROM LINDA

How we define health will vary depending on where we are at.? My kids don?t talk about health.? It?s all they know.? They expect they will fall asleep when their head hits the pillow, sleep well and wake up feeling ready for the day.? It?s not even a question in their minds.? They go hard all day, and when they are tired, they stop and rest.? They don?t think about fitness, they just play their sport because it is fun.

For adults however, health and energy become top priority.? When some clients began their journey with us,their pain was their focus.? Being free of pain = health.? They weren?t thinking about taking up golf, hiking or travelling. They wanted no more than to make it through their day without pain medication.

As they became free of their pain, their energy increased and their whole outlook on life changed.? They are now planning holidays, doing more with their friends and family, and even learning how to golf.? Health = being active and enjoying life.

In discussions with clients and friends in their 50?s, they are noticing a transition in their way of thinking.? In their 20?s and 30?s, maybe even 40?s, fitness was about sport, competition, looking good.? They pushed through pain and injury to be the best player or have the best body.

Now, in middle-age, they are shifting to a priority of health.? They are choosing activities that don?t hurt their body, vanity is less important than maintaining a healthy weight and preventing injury.? They are taking better care of their body, so their body can carry them through the activities they enjoy.

The health continuum is a double ended arrow.? The left end is disease, illness, death and the right end is optimum health and well-being.? The middle is well, 50/50, somewhere between the two.? Where are you at on the health contiuum?? Are you at least to the right of the middle mark? What are you doing to take care of yourself so you can enjoy your hobbies, sports, and family?

Fall is a great time to get going on a new routine.? Pop into the TWC to see how we can help you on your journey towards great health, energy and joy!

Complete Guidelines to Health and Fitness: Smoking Associated ...

A new study indicates that smoking is linked to anxiety with depression,
as well as to anxiety alone. However, people who are depressed but not
anxious smoke the same as any other smokers. These findings come from a
joint study from Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH), University
of Bergen and King's College in London.

The link between smoking and anxiety/depression was most apparent among women and young people. Data were collected from 60 000 participants in "Health Studies in North-Troendelag" (HUNT), a study based in a county in northern Norway.

Figures from the World Health Organisation (WHO) show that 30 percent of inhabitants in the western world smoke daily. Earlier studies have found that people with mental health problems are twice as likely to smoke as the rest of the population. Injuries to physical health after smoking are well documented. It is also known that smoking is linked to other psychological problems. Anxiety and depression are the most common complaints and are often both present in people who smoke.

Anxiety and depression most common among smokers

Arnstein Mykletun is the primary author of the article "Smoking in relation to anxiety and depression: Evidence from a large population survey: The HUNT study" published in European Psychiatry (see link under related articles). Mykletun is linked to the Division of Mental Health at NIPH but his main position is at the University of Bergen.

Mykletun explains that the study shows the strongest correlation with smoking when the subject is both anxious and depressed, next strongest with anxiety without depression and with a marginal correlation between smoking and depression without anxiety. There was no reduction in anxiety and depression over time after smoking was given up.

About the study

- Approximately 60 000 people in the age 20 - 89 years old who took part in HUNT were included in the study (HUNT has a total of 92 000 participants).

- All participants were screened using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS).

- Smoking was defined as daily use of cigarettes, cigars or a pipe.

- 29 percent of participants said they were active smokers. A similar number said that they had quit smoking while 42 per cent had previously smoked.

- 9.6 percent had anxiety, 4.9 % had depression, while 5.9 % had both, as defined by HADS.

'Sensational' Watt shines at double for Celtic

Tony Watt marked his competitive first start with a double as Celtic comfortably dispatched Inverness Caledonian Thistle 4-2 at the Caledonian Stadium despite a late rally from the home side.

With a long injury list and one eye on Wednesday's crucial Champions League qualifier, Neil Lennon fielded a makeshift Celtic side with teenagers Watt and Filip Twardzik handed their first starts as the Hoops made six changes.

However, the fringe players immediately impressed and took a third-minute lead when Victor Wanyama headed past Ryan Esson.

Watt, who scored a double on his debut as a substitute against Motherwell last season, got his first in the 25th minute when he clipped the ball over the keeper.

Charlie Mulgrew made it 3-0 in the 48th minute with a neat finish from a well-worked free-kick before Watt got his double with a rifled shot in the 64th minute.

Inverness rallied in the final ten minutes of the match with Ross Draper grabbing a double but it was little more than consolation for the hosts.

"That is as good as we have played here for a long time and I am delighted with the performance," Celtic manager Lennon said.

"Tony Watt was sensational. We threw the gauntlet down to him before the game and he responded brilliantly."

Terry Butcher was relieved not to have lost by more.

"We were delighted to get the two goals at the end when Celtic had taken their foot off the gas but at least we keep going," the Inverness manager said.

"For the rest of the game we were not at the races at al and lost to a much better side."

The result will boost the confidence of Celtic, who welcome Helsingborgs to Parkhead on Wednesday as they bid to make the group stages of the Champions League for the first time since 2008.

In a whirlwind start, Celtic took the lead in the third minute. Ryan Esson's stunning save to deny Gary Hooper earned the Hoops a corner and Adam Matthews whipped it in for Wanyama to head past Esson.

Celtic nearly doubled their lead in the seventh minute when captain Charlie Mulgrew sent a ferocious free-kick rattling off the crossbar from 25 yards out.

Inverness took their time to settle in the match but nearly drew level when Fraser Forster pulled off a superb save to stop Aaron Dorran's first-time strike from distance sneaking in.

However, the Hoops were not to de denied for long and Watt made it 2-0 in the 25th minute. The teenager took a pass from Twardzik just inside the Inverness half and turned Simon King before racing in on and lifting the ball over Esson.

The second half was barely two minutes old when Mulgrew put Celtic three in front.

Matthews played a short free-kick to the defender 14 yards from goal and he arrowed a low shot into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.

The Inverness defence were struggling to cope with the pace and movement of Watt and he got his second of the match in the 64th minute.

Emilio Izaguirre's cross found Matthews at the back post and he teed up Watt who lashed the ball past the helpless Esson from six yards out.

The Hoops were denied a clean sheet when Draper pulled one back for Inverness in the 82nd minute as he raced on to a headed knock down to get in front of Mulgrew and fire low past Forster.

Draper got his second just four minutes later when he got on the end of Conor Pepper's through ball and finished at the second attempt past Forster.

PFT: Cowboys' Bryant seeks out potential mentor

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Bryant makes a one handed catch in the San Diego Chargers end zone but steps out of bounds, during their pre-season NFL football game in San DiegoReuters

Talented yet troubled at times, Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant hasn?t had someone in his life who can provide him with advice that he?s willing or able to heed.? While it?s easy to find plenty of people who will give such advice, Bryant has to be receptive in order for the advice to take.

From Deion Sanders to David Wells to Eugene Parker to Drew Rosenhaus back to Eugene Parker to Jerry Jones to Jason Garrett, no one has been able to get Bryant?s full attention when it comes to getting and keeping his life in order.? Former Cowboys receiver Drew Pearson, who wore the same number Dez now owns, tried ? and Pearson has said that Bryant ?laughed in my face.?

Bryant has now found someone, apparently.? According to Mike Fisher and Richie Whitt of 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Bryant?s potential mentor is former Cowboys tight end Jay Novacek.

?We?ve talked, yes,?? Novacek said.? ?I?m certainly available to Dez if he needs me.??

Bryant reportedly approached Novacek during training camp and asked for advice.? ?How did you do what you did?? Bryant reportedly said.? ?Can you show me how you did what you did???

As one unnamed source told Fisher and Whitt, ?It seems like a weird choice.? But at the same time, it?s a wonderful choice.??

The fact that Bryant is willing to seek out someone for help after years of behavior suggesting that he?d listen to no one is encouraging.? And the key is that Bryant can trust Novacek because Novacek gains nothing financially from the relationship.

It?s good news for the Cowboys.? More importantly, it?s good news for Bryant, who could finally be overcoming a challenging upbringing and a more recent lifestyle that creates a sense of entitlement and becoming a responsible adult.

Kim's Tips for Great Health ? Transition Now

Our SAD (standard American diet) and many products in our homes combine to contribute to a health crisis in our country.?? We are losing our health and our sense of well-being. ?I have done a lot of investigation and study over the past few years in the field of nutrition and natural health.? The movies ?Food, Inc.?, ?Food Matters? and ?Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead? are where I started educating myself about why I need to take control of my own health.? Of all the many books that I?ve read on nutrition, four stand out as the best:? ?Deep Nutrition?, ?Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight, and Find Your Path Back to Health?, ?Health and Nutrition Secrets that Can Save you Life?, and ?The Maker?s Diet?.?? These books have provided the foundation for my current diet and healthy lifestyle.

Here?s a summary of the steps I?ve taken to improve my own health and well being.

What I?ve eliminated:

  1. Hydrogenated oils and trans fats (Crisco, margarine, etc) from my diet.
  2. Vegetable oils.? For cooking I only use organic butter, organic grass-fed ghee and coconut oil. I do use extra virgin olive oil, avocado and macadamia nut oil but not for cooking.? Other vegetable oils are toxic to the body.
  3. Artificial sweeteners.? Aspartame is a genetically modified food with dangerous side effects.? More and more is being discovered each day about how damaging this and other artificial sweeteners are to the body.? They are also implicated in weight gain.
  4. Sugar.? Cancer cells thrive in the presence of sugar and it disrupts your body functions and impairs your immune system.? I use raw honey, raw, organic agave nectar, coconut palm sugar and stevia instead.
  5. Foods and drinks made with high fructose corn syrup or corn syrup. No sodas!? They will damage the liver, are converted immediately to body fat, and increase LDL cholesterol.? I don?t drink store bought juice for the same reason.
  6. Grains (wheat, barley, spelt). Foods that contain gluten can lead to everything from thyroid disorders, trouble losing weight, depression and other mental disorders, digestion diseases, malnourishment, and so much more.? I do occasionally eat sourdough or bread made from whole grains soaked in an acid medium overnight.
  7. Nitrites or nitrates ?(ham, hot dogs, lunch meats, and bacon not labeled as nitrate-free). These preservatives are known to cause cancer.
  8. MSG (in the majority of packaged foods) with is a dangerous neurotoxin which also causes weight gain.
  9. Soy products of any kind unless they are organic and fermented (miso, tempeh, natto).
  10. All conventional dairy products.? Occasionally I will drink raw, organic, grass-fed milk and I do use organic pastured butter and ghee.
  11. Food or drinks in plastic, unless it is in my own BPA-free water bottle.? I don?t cook in/with plastic or store food in plastic containers.? Note: Ziploc bags and Gladware containers are BPA free.
  12. Teflon coated pots and pans.? Teflon is toxic.? I only use stainless steel, glass and hard anodized pots and pans for cooking.
  13. Aluminum Foil because it leeches into the food and aluminum is a toxic heavy metal.
  14. Canned foods. Unless labeled otherwise, cans are coated with toxic plastics that enter the food when the product is processed.
  15. Alcoholic beverages.
  16. Caffeine because it keeps me up at night.
  17. Microwave popcorn because it has dangerous chemicals, preservatives, table salt and GMO corn.
  18. Most fish, unless it?s wild, Alaskan salmon, to avoid mercury, pcbs, and dioxins.
  19. Genetically modified foods (non-organic corn, potato and soy products).? Organic produce is more nutritious due to the quality of the soil it is grown in.
  20. Pork and shellfish to avoid parasites, viruses, bacteria and toxins.
  21. Pesticide laden vegetables and fruits.? I use the dirty dozen list to choose clean produce. (http://www.foodnews.org/walletguide.php)
  22. I?ve eliminate almost all processed foods from my diet.
  23. Dental amalgam fillings because they contain mercury.

What I Eat

  1. I eat mostly fresh and frozen organic fruits and veggies.
  2. I LOVE COCONUT OIL!!? I use it in almost everything.
  3. I eat lots of avocados.
  4. I eat lots of spinach salads with fruit, nuts and vegetables (dressed with olive oil and Himalayan salt).
  5. I use raw honey, raw, organic agave nectar, coconut palm sugar and stevia to sweeten foods and beverages.? Coconut palm sugar is delicious and very nutritious and has a low glycemic index.? I use it in everything.
  6. I also eat plenty of white rice, brown rice, oats and quinua along with organic potatoes for carbohydrates.? I love to eat brown rice and quinua pastas and gluten free tortillas.
  7. I love coconut ice cream and organic dark chocolate.
  8. I cook from scratch.
  9. I drink coconut milk and almond milk instead of cows milk.
  10. I drink 2 cups of green tea every day.
  11. I make bone broth every week to use in soups, stews and vegetables (instead of MSG/bullion cubes).? Bone broth is a super food and it?s delicious!
  12. I eat only organic meats and eggs, usually grass-fed or pastured. ?I eat lots of protein and healthy fats every day.
  13. I use a good quality juicer (Greenstar) and blender (Vitamix) to prepare my juices and smoothies. ?I try to eat plenty of raw food every day.? I love to add flax seed, chia seed and hemp seed to my smoothies.
  14. I drink water from a reverse osmosis filter (to eliminate the fluoride, chlorine and other toxins in our municipal water supplies).? Fluoride contributes to many health problems in America, including thyroid disease, bone cancer, dental fluorosis and decreased IQ in children. Chlorine destroys the healthy fauna in our GI tract.
  15. I eat lots of nuts and seeds.? Brazil nuts, raw cashews, raw almonds, raw pecans, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, walnuts and others all have minerals and fats that are vital to helping the body function optimally. ?I don?t eat any that have oils or MSG listed in their ingredients.
  16. I?ve switched to Celtic Sea Salt and Himalayan Salt. ?There are many different minerals that can be found it sea salt that our bodies need.? Himalayan salt has over 80 essential minerals (table salt only has one, iodine).
  17. I eat prunes.? Prunes have been shown to help keep the calcium in our bones much better than calcium supplements.

Other changes that I have implemented

  1. I?ve switched to an all-natural deodorant (no aluminum). I?m also careful to buy bathing products, sunscreens, lotions and makeup that do not contain toxic substances.? Many are endocrine or brain chemistry disruptors.? (google ?toxic cosmetic? to see lists of ingredients to avoid.)
  2. I use natural cleaning products and avoid bleach.
  3. I?ve switched our entire family to a non-fluoride toothpaste.? The fluoride we consume contributes to our out-of-whack thyroids and can make us gain weight and make it more difficult to lose weight.
  4. I exercise regularly.
  5. I try to get some sun every day. 15-20 minutes in the summer without sunscreen (before skin turns pink) for optimal vitamin D levels and also to improve and maintain good vision.
  6. I sleep well.? I get at least 8 hours of quality sleep per night in complete darkness.
  7. I?ve done everything I can do to decrease exposure to electromagnetic frequencies in my bedroom (no alarm clock, CFL light bulbs or cordless phone by my bed. I sleep on a grounding pad and use a Qlink nimbus to bring harmony to the chaotic EMF fields in our house and bedroom).
  8. I NEVER get the flu shot ? I refuse to knowingly put aluminum, formaldahyde and mercury in my body.? Instead I maintain a strong immune system through diet and supplements. (http://www.flu-treatments.com/flu-shot-ingredients.html)
  9. I spend time in prayer and meditation every day.
  10. I stay connected with friends.
  11. I give back (help people get healthy, mentor young moms, raise amazing kids (I hope) and serve at my children?s school)

I do take supplements

  1. Vitamin D3 ? 1000 IUs in the summer and 5000 IUs in the winter.
  2. Krill oil ? essential fatty acids and astaxanthin for brain health.
  3. One good quality, whole food probiotic daily to build healthy flora/fauna and immunity.? I also eat sauerkraut and kimchi.
  4. Whole food multi-vitamin and mineral supplement for overall health.? Synthetic vitamins are not easily absorbed by the body.
  5. Melatonin for sleep (also a powerful antioxidant).
  6. Garlic, coconut oil, manuka honey and apple cider vinegar ? to stave off bacteria and viruses.
  7. Gingko Biloba for memory enhancement, improved vision and blood circulation.

(AP) ? When Iran welcomes leaders to a world gathering next week, few will get a grander reception than India's prime minister. As Tehran tries to offset the squeeze from Western oil sanctions, there is no greater priority than courting energy-hungry Asian markets.

The planned visit by Manmohan Singh, the first by an Indian prime minister in more than a decade, puts into sharp relief the sanctions-easing strategies by Iran ? and the political complexities for Washington that limit its pressure on Asian powers needing Tehran's oil.

Oil purchases by India, China and South Korea ? which decided this week to resume Iranian imports ? have not covered Tehran's losses after it was tossed out of the European market in July. But they have given Iran a critical cushion that brings in tens of millions of dollars in revenue a day and means that Iran has dropped only one ranking, to stand as OPEC's third-largest producer.

The U.S. has pressed hard for Iran's top customers ? China, India, Japan and South Korea ? to scale back on crude imports, with some success, offering in return exemptions from possible American penalties. But Washington cannot push its key Asian trading partners too fast or too aggressively and risk economic rifts.

"Despite Western sanctions ... China and Japan will remain major importers of Iranian crude oil and so will India," said Siddak Bakir, a Middle East and South Asian analyst for IHS Energy in London.

The ability of sanctions to wring concessions over Iran's nuclear program remains a key divide between Israel and the U.S. and its European partners.

Washington urges allowing more time for sanctions to eat into Iran's economy, which depends on oil exports for 80 percent of its foreign revenue. Some Israeli leaders have indicated a military attack is a possibility if they conclude the international community has failed to halt Iran's uranium enrichment. Iran insists it's not seeking atomic weapons and its reactors are for energy and medical use.

For Iran, however, there's a parallel fight: Trying to keep the oil flowing to its key Asian customers, possibly through deals to sell at below-market prices.

"China and India are not doing this as a favor to Iran. Quite the contrary," said Pennsylvania-based oil trader Stephen Schork. "I am sure they are extracting a very good deal out of the Iranians. ... I don't think it's fair to say Iran is unscathed. Certainly, they are under duress."

At the same time, the U.S. is applying relentless pressure on Iran's big oil markets to cut back on Iranian imports. Published and anecdotal data suggest some headway by Washington, which sweetened the offer by granting the big-four Asian buyers exemptions from possible penalties in return for curbing Iranian imports.

On Wednesday, U.S. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said the exemptions would be reviewed at the end of their six-month term. "What's important to us is ... that the net flow is continuing to decrease," she told reporters in Washington.

Still, it's clear the U.S. is unwilling to risk trade wars with key Asian trading partners, even over the showdown with Iran.

"The U.S. needs Asia. It needs to maintain good relations. It also needs Asia as a critical partner in its efforts to pressure Iran through sanctions," said Sami al-Faraj, director of the Kuwait Center for Strategic Studies. "It's a delicate process of diplomacy, incentives and alternatives."

Even fast-growing China ? which counts on Iran for about 10 percent of its energy needs ? has slightly scaled back on imports from Iran: 510,000 barrels a day in the second quarter this year, compared with 560,000 in the same period last year. But some analysts say this was more over a pricing dispute than U.S. pressure.

On Tuesday, South Korea said it would resume buying Iranian oil in September after a two-month break, but at reduced levels that comply with U.S. sanctions guidelines.

Cutting Iranian crude was just too big a price for South Korea, which has nearly 3,000 companies that sold $6 billion worth of goods to Iran in 2011. Iran was also the only country that supplied oil to South Korea during the 1973 oil crisis and, in return, a major downtown street in Seoul was named after the Iranian capital, Tehran.

"South Korea does not want its ties with Tehran to irk the U.S., so it made great efforts to persuade the Obama administration to give it an exemption. Iran is probably the most important Middle Eastern country for South Korea, and it is very difficult for South Korea to sever its ties with Iran because it offers cheaper oil," said Chang Byung-ock, an Iran expert at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul.

The 27-nation EU accounted for 18 percent of Iran's exports, or about 450,000 barrels a day. Add that to the reductions in Asia ? more than half of Iran's oil exports before the EU sanctions ? and Iran has lost a significant, but not yet crippling, portion of its oil revenue.

According to the International Energy Agency, a 28-nation group that monitors global energy trends, Iran's crude oil production has fallen steadily since May to 2.9 million barrels a day in July, dropping Iran to the No. 3 spot behind resurgent Iraq.

Meanwhile, imports of Iranian oil by major consumers plunged to 1 million barrels a day in July from 1.74 million barrels a day in June, according to an Aug. 10 report from the agency, which did not give a country-by-country breakdown.

In late July ? about a month after the EU halted Iranian oil purchases ? Iran's central bank chief, Mahmoud Bahmani, called Western sanctions akin to a "military war" that requires new economic countermeasures in return. These likely will include boosting sales of petrochemical products, such as motor oil, that are not covered by sanctions, as well as expansive diplomatic efforts to secure oil markets in China and India.

The latter is set to take center stage with the Indian prime minister's appearance at the Aug. 30-31 meeting in Tehran of the Non-Aligned Movement, a Cold War relic that Iran seeks to rebuild as a counterpoint to Western influence.

India has faced a full-scale press from both sides.

In May, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton stopped in India and made repeated appeals for Iran's No. 2 oil customer to scale back on its purchases. India has curbed some of its Iranian imports ? agreeing after Clinton's visit to an 11 percent drop in the coming year. But there are limits to how far India can go as it struggles with a widening deficit and weak rupee, which drives up the costs of oil imports.

India has joined Japan in offering government-backed insurance for ships carrying Iranian crude, to bypass European sanctions that prohibit EU companies from offering coverage. The move seeks to avoid interruptions in the Iranian oil supply, with the first shipment by a government-insured tanker scheduled to arrive in India this week.

Japan was the first country to devise a workaround to the EU sanctions, passing the emergency measure in late June to avoid a disruption in critical oil supplies due to actions against Iran.

Any potential economic lifelines for Iran are likely to feed into calls by Israelis favoring a military strike on Iran. At the same time, opponents of military action have become increasingly outspoken as signs point to a war footing, such as the opening of new gas mask distribution centers in the Jewish state.

"Iran tries to present an image of having some kind of network of relationships with outside countries, and say they are not as vulnerable," said Eldad Pardo, an Iranian affairs expert at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. "But the facts on the ground show they are under a lot of pressure."

Complete Guidelines to Health and Fitness: Treximet (sumatriptan ...

GlaxoSmithKline (LSE & NYSE: GSK) and POZEN Inc. (NASDAQ: POZN)
announced that the FDA has approved Treximet for the acute treatment of migraine
attacks with or without aura in adults. Treximet is the first and only
migraine product designed to target multiple mechanisms of migraine by
combining a triptan, a class of migraine-specific medicines pioneered by
GSK, and an anti-inflammatory pain reliever in a single tablet.

Treximet contains 85 mg sumatriptan, formulated with RT Technology?, and 500 mg naproxen sodium. Sumatriptan is the active ingredient in Imitrex? Tablets, available in 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg strengths. In clinical trials, Treximet provided a significantly greater percentage of patients migraine pain relief at two hours compared to sumatriptan 85 mg or naproxen sodium 500 mg alone. In addition, Treximet provided more patients sustained migraine pain relief from two to 24 hours compared to the individual components.

"Migraine patients want their medicine to work early, and to continue to provide relief," said Dr. Stephen Silberstein, professor of neurology and director of the Jefferson Headache Center at Thomas Jefferson University and an investigator who participated in clinical trials. "The FDA approval of Treximet is good news for migraine patients because clinical trials showed that Treximet produced sustained migraine pain relief for a significant number of patients." Further, Silberstein said, significantly fewer patients on Treximet required the use of a rescue medication to treat their migraine attack than those taking sumatriptan 85 mg.

Treximet is well studied, with more than 3,700 migraine sufferers treating nearly 30,000 migraine attacks in clinical studies. The product is expected to be available in U.S. pharmacies by mid-May.

Clinical trials demonstrated superior efficacy to individual components The approval of Treximet was based on data from two identical double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, multicenter studies of more than 2,900 migraine sufferers.

Findings from these pivotal studies demonstrated that Treximet provided more patients migraine pain relief at two and four hours compared to sumatriptan 85 mg, naproxen sodium 500 mg or placebo alone. Importantly, in these studies, Treximet was effective at relieving the pain of a migraine attack and maintaining that relief from two to 24 hours. In addition, Treximet effectively relieved migraine associated symptoms nausea and sensitivity to light and sound compared to placebo.

Treximet was generally well-tolerated in these pivotal studies The most common treatment-related adverse events reported within 24 hours of taking Treximet were dizziness; nausea; somnolence; chest discomfort and chest pain; neck, throat and jaw pain, tightness and pressure; numbness/tingling; upset stomach; and dry mouth.Treximet was also studied in a one-year open-label tolerability and safety study of 565 patients who treated nearly 24,500 migraine attacks with the active drug. Patients completing the one-year study treated an average of five migraine attacks per month with Treximet.

Migraines impact millions of Americans

Migraine headaches continue to be a significant problem for the estimated 29.5 million Americans, nearly half of which are undiagnosed. According to the International Headache Society's diagnostic criteria, migraine is characterized by recurrent headaches which, if untreated, typically last four to 72 hours, with symptoms including moderate to severe headache pain, throbbing head pain, head pain located on one side of the head, head pain aggravated by routine activity, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound.

In the past, many clinicians believed that migraine was a vascular condition, induced by blood vessel dilation alone.

Today, new insight suggests that migraine is much more complex, involving a chain of events that are both neurovascular and inflammatory. Treximet contains sumatriptan that mediates vasoconstriction, which correlates with the relief of migraine headache. It also contains naproxen, an anti-inflammatory agent. Therefore, sumatriptan and naproxen sodium contribute to the relief of migraine through pharmacologically different mechanisms of action.

Important safety information about Treximet

Prescription Treximet is indicated for the acute treatment of migraine attacks, with or without aura, in adults. Treximet should only be used where a clear diagnosis of migraine headache has been established. Treximet may cause an increased risk of serious cardiovascular thrombotic events, myocardial infarction, and stroke, which can be fatal. This risk may increase with duration of use. Patients with cardiovascular disease or risk factors for cardiovascular disease may be at greater risk. Treximet contains a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). NSAID-containing products cause an increased risk of serious gastrointestinal adverse events including bleeding, ulceration, and perforation of the stomach or intestines, which can be fatal. These events can occur at any time during use and without warning symptoms. Elderly patients are at greater risk for serious gastrointestinal events. Treximet is contraindicated in patients with history, symptoms, or signs of ischemic cardiac, cerebrovascular, or peripheral vascular syndromes and in patients with other significant underlying cardiovascular diseases. Treximet should not be given to patients in whom unrecognized coronary artery disease is predicted by the presence of risk factors without a prior cardiovascular evaluation. Treximet should not be given to patients with uncontrolled hypertension because the components have been shown to increase blood pressure. Concurrent administration of MAO-A inhibitors or use of Treximet within two weeks of discontinuation of MAO-A inhibitor therapy is contraindicated. Treximet and any ergotamine-containing or ergot-type medication (like dihydroergotamine and mthysergide) should not be used within 24 hours of each other. Since Treximet contains sumatriptan, it should not be administered with another 5-HT1 agonist. Treximet is contraindicated in patients with hepatic impairment. Treximet is contraindicated in patients who have had allergic reactions to products containing naproxen. It is also contraindicated in patients in whom aspirin or other NSAIDs/analgesic drugs induce the syndrome of asthma, rhinitis, and nasal polyps. Both types of reactions have the potential of being fatal. Treximet is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to sumatriptan, naproxen, or any other component of the product. Cerebrovascular events have been reported in patients treated with sumatriptan. In a number of cases, it appears possible that the cerebrovascular events were primary. It is important to advise patients not to administer Treximet if a headache being experienced is atypical. The development of a potentially life-threatening serotonin syndrome may occur with triptans, including treatment with Treximet, particularly during combined use with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). NSAID-containing products, including Treximet, should be prescribed with extreme caution in those with a prior history of ulcer disease or gastrointestinal bleeding. Treximet should not be used in late pregnancy because NSAID-containing products have been shown to cause premature closure of the ductus arteriosus. Treximet should not be used during early pregnancy unless the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
