Lincoln garbage haulers nervous about mayor?s recycling push

By Deena Winter | Nebraska Watchdog GARBAGE: Lincoln garbage haulers are worried about a proposal to require them to offer curbside recycling to all residential customers. LINCOLN ? Garbage haulers in Lincoln are concerned the Mayor?s suggestion that all garbage haulers be required to offer curbside recycling is the first step toward mandating recycling in Lincoln. Steve Hatten, president of Paragon Sanitation, is a member of an advisory committee that?s been working to update the city?s solid waste plan through 2040, but said the committee was ?stacked? with pro-recycling people and the process was steered by city employees and a consultant who pushed the Mayor?s agenda. The city is paying HDR $330,000 to facilitate the update. ?I don?t think he would?ve needed to spend that to get where he needed to go because the committee was very pro-recycling,? Hatten said. ...
