Walk for HAWC
Sunday May 6, 2012
This coming week, March 26-29, the Lynn Community Association and North Shore Community College have teamed up to sponsor the ?Silent Witness Project? in the halls of North Shore C.C. For those of you unfamiliar, the ?Silent Witness Project? consists of wooden silhouettes representing people from our local communities that have died from Domestic Violence over the past few years. Name plates with a brief synopsis of the circumstances around their individual deaths are adorned on the front of the silhouettes. It will be on display with in the halls and open spaces of both campuses, Lynn and Danvers, this coming week and the general public is welcome to come and view them. This is the first, in a series events, at the college drawing attention to the horrors of Domestic Violence with an end opportunity for all of us to help by walking or running in the 20th Annual Walk for HAWC (Healing Abuse Working for Change).
According the statistics:
? 1 in 4 women is a victim of domestic violence.
? Domestic violence occurs in same-gender relationships at the same rate as heterosexual relationships (1 in 4)

For 33 years HAWC has provided life-saving services to victims of domestic violence and has partnered with the community to create social change. For 20 years HAWC has engaged the community to speak out against domestic violence in the Walk for HAWC.?HAWC?s mission is to create a social change by taking action against personal and societal patters of violence and oppression.?With the support of many, HAWC offered free life changing and life-saving services:

In addition to the ?Silent Witness Project?, North Shore Community College will be showcasing a display of art work from HAWC?s ?Survivor Story Project? in the Lynn Campus Library the week of April 9, ?The Clothes Line Project? will be on display in Danvers on April 5th and in Lynn on April 12th, with a panel discussion featuring local survivors of Domestic Violence, from 9:30-11:00 am. On April 4th NSCC will be sponsoring a community Health Fair in the gymnasium from 10:00 am to 2:00, where more information about the Walk/Run for HAWC will be available. All are welcome to attend these events.
In this economy it is tough asking for sponsorships, but if you, your business, or organization wish to create a team of walkers whose collective individual sponsorship add up to at least $250, your team will be listed in the HAWC program on the day of the Walk/Run with a 1/8 page ad(larger ads for scaled contribution). If you have any questions please feel free to call or e-mail me or visit the HAWC website www.hawcdv.org and click on the 20th Annual Walk for HAWC. Thank you for your participation and I look forward to see you at one of your upcoming events at North Shore Community College.
Sincerely,
Bob Connolly
