With the mayoral candidates rushing to outdo each other on social media, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio on Friday said he was launching two more social media sites, bringing the total number for his campaign to eight.

One will be for his photogenic wife Chirlane McCray ? which will feature family photos, including shots of a much-younger de Blasio sporting a mullet.

McCray?s Facebook fan page, a first for a candidate?s spouse in the 2013 race, launches Monday.

?She has intrigued many New Yorkers and we wanted to have another outlet to post and share her work,? said campaign spokesman Rebecca Katz.

McCray has given extensive interviews to buoy her husband?s campaign about her past life as young lesbian and the challenges they face as an interracial couple.

De Blasio ? who has hired some of President Obama?s social media staffers ? also rolled out a Tumblr page dubbed ?A Tale of Two Cities? to tout his old-school message of income inequality in New York City.

The stark page, which features grim quotes about how pricey the city is but has no photos, includes links to news articles about tough times for poor New Yorkers.

It might seem like overkill, but de Blasio?s not the only candidate trying to capture votes through social media.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has an ?ideas app? for smartphone users to go along with her Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages. Nearly every candidate is on Twitter and Facebook, but it?s unclear if voters are paying attention to the online noise.

Former Controller William Thompson ? who has a relatively minor online presence ? has surged in recent polls, while the more tech-savvy Quinn has seen her numbers drop by 20 percentage points.

?For a politician, the sincerity factor is more important than the cutting-edge factor,? said Janet Sternberg, author of ?New New Media? who has studied social media and politics.

Obama ? whose 2008 victory was credited in large part to harnessing the youth vote through social media ? used sites to encourage his supporters to meet in real life, she said. That created a sense of community.

De Blasio?s websites haven?t yet delivered much of a showing in the polls, but Katz says he plans to reach voters wherever they are.

?Whether you?re at a subway stop, on your desktop, or on your phone, we want to connect,? she said.
